The project began simply as a mixtape. I wanted to make a compilation of hip hop songs that prominently sampled the Scarface soundtrack or the film itself, which seemed fitting given hip hop culture's peculiar attraction to the 1980s film. It then dawned on me that it might be interesting to see how hip hop might act as a soundtrack for the film itself. And so the mixtape became a re-edit of the film. The songs used follow the order of the songs sampled. The narrative structure remains roughly intact but for a few liberties.
